The deacons of Brighton Road and I would like to thank your Mystery
Worshipper for including our church on his itinerary, although it
sadly seems that he was with us in body but not in spirit.
As we understand it, the purpose of a Mystery
Worshipper’s report is to enable us to see ourselves as others see
us. Reading the comments should be a bit like looking into a concave
mirror and seeing one’s reflection in discomforting close-up. Alas!
We found that examining the account of the visit by the Old Man
from Scene 24 was more like looking into a fairground mirror – too
warped and distorted to be of much use.
So we are sorry on two counts: both that
our visitor obviously did not enjoy his experience and also that
a more constructive opportunity for appraisal has been missed. But,
since we do at least try to let the Holy Spirit lead our thinking,
we want to respond by wishing your Mystery Worshipper well in his
quest for a church that will replenish his stocks of life, joy and
charity.
The Revd Mr Tim Carter
